Auditory processing Therapy in london
Because of loud sound levels and frequent exposure to noise, musicians can develop hearing problems such as tinnitus and hearing loss.
What Is Auditory Processing Therapy?
Auditory processing therapy is a structured programme of intervention designed to improve the brain’s ability to interpret, organise and make sense of sound — particularly speech. It is distinct from hearing aid fitting or standard hearing rehabilitation, targeting the underlying processing difficulties rather than hearing sensitivity alone. Therapy may follow a formal APD assessment, or may be recommended where auditory processing difficulties are identified as part of a broader hearing or communication assessment.

Who Can Benefit?
Auditory processing therapy is appropriate for individuals who experience difficulty understanding speech in background noise, following complex instructions, or processing rapidly delivered information — despite having normal or near-normal hearing thresholds on standard audiometry.
It is particularly relevant for:
— Children with speech and language delay, reading difficulties or classroom listening challenges
— Adults with APD, cognitive hearing difficulties or listening fatigue
— Individuals with co-occurring conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD or language processing disorders
— Musicians and professionals with noise-related auditory processing difficulties
Our Auditory Processing Therapy Programmes:
Auditory Training
Structured auditory training targets specific processing skills identified through assessment. Sessions develop the brain’s ability to discriminate, sequence, blend and recall auditory information. Our computer-based auditory training programme consists of 20 sessions of 20–30 minutes each, carried out over a structured period. Results are reviewed and analysed by an audiologist to identify areas for further improvement.
Phonological Awareness Training
Phonological awareness — the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds within words — is fundamental to reading, spelling and spoken language comprehension. Targeted therapy in this area supports both children and adults experiencing difficulties with sound discrimination and language processing.
Auditory Memory and Sequencing
Difficulties with auditory memory and sequencing affect the ability to follow verbal instructions, recall spoken information and process connected speech. Therapy targets these skills directly, building capacity to retain and reconstruct auditory information accurately.
Communication Strategy Training
We offer individual sessions in communication tactics for patients, families and significant others. This includes lip-reading, assertiveness training to help patients communicate their needs confidently, and practical strategies for managing challenging listening environments.
FM Systems and Assistive Technology
Where indicated, we provide guidance on frequency modulated (FM) systems and other assistive listening devices that improve signal-to-noise ratio in educational and workplace settings. Access to Work and Disabled Students’ Allowance reports can be provided where required.
