An audiogram can show when a client is suffering from industrial deafness caused by excessive exposure to noise in the workplace. This type of hearing loss is described as a Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). We can also involve other medical consultants if a multi-disciplinary approach is required.

Audiometry tests are undertaken according to BSA guidelines and we allow for up to 20 minutes for the actual testing. We do require photographic identification to be presented upon arrival. The tests can be carried out at any of our centres across the UK.
Four simple steps as described below:
STEP 1: Pre-test hearing questionnaire
A short questionnaire that helps us to identify any factors which may have an impact on the audiometry results such as infections, any accidents, past medical problems with their hearing. The client confirms with the audiologist at this point that he/she has not been exposed to any noise in the previous 12 hours before the appointment.
STEP 2: Otoscopic examination
Using an otoscope we check for wax build-up, inflammation of the ear canal, foreign objects, damage to the ear drum etc.
STEP 3: The hearing test
This consists of the client wearing a set of ear-tones or headphones and a series of sounds being played this is called pure tone audiometry. The sounds vary in pitch and volume, the audiologist records the quietest noises the client can hear across the frequency range.
STEP 4: Review of the results
The results are reviewed by the audiologist and a report is compiled in accordance to the solicitors requirements. This can be emailed and/or sent and a copy of the audiogram supplied.
